Merry Christmas and welcome to the Joys of the Seasons Blog
Hop. Today I thought I’d share a little holiday trivia with you.
First, did you know that there is actually buzz on the
internet that now claims the Coca Cola company is responsible for the look of
Santa because of their iconic Christmas campaigns. However, Santa has evolved
from books, artists and historians into what we know of Santa today.
Did you know ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas’ was a poem we
almost never read. Clement Clarke Moore wrote the poem for his family in 1922,
but thought it too beneath his talents for publication. Even after a close
family friend submitted it to the Sentinel newspaper and it was published anonymously,
Moore denied penning the hugely popular story. But after fifteen years, his
children finally convinced him to claim the beloved poem.
Finally, you know Dancer and Prancer, Comet…you know the
song. But did you know Rudolph started out at as a commercial promotion for
Montgomery Ward in 1939. Children visiting the store to see Santa were given a
booklet about Rudolph. However, Rudolph didn’t become a superstar until his
story was set to music.

Great trivia, KyAnn! Reminds me of an article I just read in Smithsonian Magazine about how electric Christmas lights came about, thanks to a man who worked with Thomas Edison. He created the idea of red and green lights to adorn trees. Merry Christmas!
Loved hearing the Christmas trivia, KyAnn! Thanks for sharing. Merry Christmas!
Wonderful post. I love the history. Reading The Night Before Christmas to my boys is one of my favorite memories. :-)
