The Next Big Thing

A few weeks ago a wonderful writer friend asked if I'd like to share a bit about my latest work. I, of course, said, "sure." Thank you to Linda Joyce, http://lindajoycecontemplates.wordpress.com/  for inviting me to this fun chain blog event. After visiting my blog, stop by the blogs at the end of this post next Wednesday to add another link in the chain.

1: What is the working title of your book?

I have three books in the works right now. 2 completed (one novel and one novella) and 1 in progress (a short novel). Just Kiss Me will be ready for release before the other two. It’s a 20k novella.

2: Where did the idea come from for the book?

I wanted to write a short story, under 10K. But after the opening pages, the characters took on more baggage. Both heroes (it’s a m/m novella) have serious relationship issues. I knew I wouldn’t be able to resolve their issues in less than 10K.

3. What genre does your book come under?

m/m contemporary romance. The situations are serious, dealing with sexual abuse, being raised in a cult, and promiscuity.

4: Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?

This is such a hard question for me to answer. My characters tend to become real in my head. I think about them. I miss them when the story is over. So I don’t really see an actor in the role of a character. They would need to be handsome in the face and a body made for sex. Heroes have to be hot.

5: What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?

A man, raised and abused in a cult finds comfort and love in the arms of a man who’s never had better than relationships based on sex.

6: Is your book self-published, published by an independent publisher, or represented by an agency?

Not sure yet if I’ll sub this one to a publisher or put it under K.Inc, my self-published books.

7: How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?

This one took me a while because of life getting in the way of writing. I would put this one at about 6 months. Normally a 20K story would take me 4 to 6 weeks to write.

8: What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?

Hopefully, Just Kiss Me would stand out as contemporary m/m romance. The story is filled with introspection as both characters come to grips with their pasts and figure out what they have to offer in a relationship.

9: Who or what inspired you to write this book?

Not sure. But I did struggle with the story. I wonder if I’m doing the story or characters justice by finishing the book at only 20K. Maybe there is more of the story left to tell. But as an author, once the love portion of the story resolves, I like to see the end.

10: What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?

While the story is erotic and contains yummy man on man sex, and I hope to leave the reader with a tingle in all the right places, I hope they also like the journey of self-discovery for both characters.

Thank you for stopping by and checking out my Next Big Thing. Leave any comment for a chance to win any title from my backlist.

Next week stop by a couple of my friends' blogs.

Mercy Of The Dragon

Published: 01/28/2011

Ja’darien, slayer of Dracs, will stop at nothing to banish his deviant desire for the dragons. He won't rest until he rids the world of the beasts. On the edge of a ravine, he waits for his prey.

Kerkira, a winged dragon, hunts the slayer. Yet, when given the chance, he can’t kill his enemy. The man is his mate. However, because of Ja'darien's sins against the Dracs, Kerkira vows the slayer’s submission will not be pleasant.

The bond of mating is more intense than either is prepared for. Will Kerkira forgive him because Ja’darien is at the mercy of the dragon?

This title contains: explicit language, anal sex, bondage,
BDSM, and m/m.

Rosette (27 pages)

Excerpt:

Kerkira approached the bedding. The slayer, naked and bound with cord to his pallet, continued to sleep. Kerkira swallowed hard. Ja’darien was beautiful in repose. His perfect form was seemingly at peace. His full lips softened to a half smile. High brows arched over expressive eyes.

On the ridge above the ravine, those emerald eyes had revealed more than fear and hatred. Passion and lust. Even if Kerkira hadn’t scented the sweetness of his essence, he’d felt the heat radiating off Ja’darien. Ja’darien’s engorged cock had pressed against his tunic. The arousing fluids dampened the protective cloth and sent shards of pleasure unfurling within Kerkira’s dragon—awakening the man.

“How do I make you understand?” he whispered to the sleeping slayer. If only Ja’darien had realized he’d destroyed his destiny with his rage against dragons.

Kerkira had stripped him of clothes upon arriving at his lair. His mate was for his pleasure and the need to roam hand, mouth and cock over the muscular perfection was increasing with each passing moment. Instinct to mate, to claim him—to mark him—was overwhelming. But so was the need to discipline the slayer, to punish him with painful pleasure.

As he had tied the intricate knots in the rope, binding Ja’darien to the bed, Kerkira’s clawed hands had trembled.

“You will never slaughter another Drac,” Kerkira vowed. Ja’darien’s destiny was to serve and Kerkira would see to his instruction. “For the pain and death you’ve rained upon my species, your submission to me will be total and complete.” His eyes narrowed as he visualized a submissive Ja’darien accepting Kerkira’s power and learning to take pleasure in punishment. Ja’darien had been fighting against his true nature. A dragon’s mate was always submissive. “However, it may not always be pleasant.”
